Women's Sweatshirts
Two sweatshirts, one fabric
Eleventh Hour
Eleventh Hour is the crew neck sweatshirt of the collection, cut relaxed and worn by women and men alike. The name points to the last hour before midnight, when the terrace empties and the air cools. Eleventh Hour comes in six colours: white, olive, dark blue, club blue, pink with bordeaux piping and sand with white piping. Sizes run from S to XL.
Le Cap
In French, le cap is a headland, the rocky point where the coast meets the sea, as in Cap Ferrat or Cap d’Antibes. Those points catch the evening wind first. Le Cap is the hooded version of the Baindoux sweatshirt, with a dark blue trim around the hood and a small Baindoux label on the chest.
- Le Cap: the solid version in more than a dozen colours, from sand and white to nautical blue and electric yellow.
- Le Cap Multi: the same cut in a tie-dye of green, rose and blue.
Where the sweatshirt comes from
The sweatshirt started on an American football field. In the 1920s, Benjamin Russell Jr. in Alabama replaced the itchy wool jerseys of his players with a heavier cotton top, and the sweatshirt was born. The players sweated in it during training, and the name stayed.
From the field, the sweatshirt moved to college campuses and from there into everyday wardrobes. Baindoux swaps the brushed jersey of the original for terry, which keeps the comfort and adds a quiet texture.
Sweatshirt or sweater
A sweatshirt is cut from a woven or looped cotton fabric, such as jersey or terry. A sweater is knitted from yarn, usually wool or cashmere. Eleventh Hour carries the ease of a sweatshirt and the clean line of a sweater, which is why the piece works with tailored trousers as well as with shorts.
Why terry makes a better sweatshirt
Most sweatshirts pill after a season, because short cotton fibres work loose and roll into small balls. Baindoux terry is made from Giza cotton, whose extra-long fibre leaves fewer loose ends on the surface. The sweatshirt stays smooth, the colour stays deep and the cuffs keep their shape. The properties of Giza cotton and the work in the Baindoux atelier explain the difference.
From the coast to the mountains
The same sweatshirt works far from the beach. The outfits for St. Moritz and what to wear in Zermatt rely on soft cotton under a ski jacket and on its own at the après-ski table.
- Over shorts: Eleventh Hour in sand with white piping over women’s shorts for a cool morning on the terrace.
- Over a dress: Le Cap over one of the women’s dresses when the evening turns.
- Travel: Eleventh Hour in dark blue with white trousers for the flight home.

Softness is hard to judge on a screen. You order every sweatshirt online with the delivery and returns terms on one page, or you feel the terry first in one of the Baindoux stores.
Frequently asked questions
What is a sweatshirt?
A sweatshirt is a long-sleeved cotton top with a round neck and ribbed cuffs. The sweatshirt started as training wear for American football players in the 1920s.
What is the difference between a sweatshirt and a sweater?
A sweatshirt is made from cotton fabric such as jersey or terry. A sweater is knitted from yarn, usually wool or cashmere.
How do you stop a sweatshirt from pilling?
Wash the sweatshirt inside out at 30°C and dry it flat instead of in a tumble dryer. A sweatshirt made from long-staple cotton, such as Giza cotton, pills less in the first place.
