Baindoux shorts abbygill

Shorts

Short on length. Big on attitude.

Women's Shorts

Some summers ask for very little. A swim before breakfast, a long lunch that turns into the afternoon, a walk along the harbour when the light goes gold. Baindoux shorts are made for exactly those days: soft Giza cotton terry, a clean line and a small detail that someone always notices. Two styles, each with its own temperament.

Two styles, two temperaments

Wink

Wink is named after the signal for affection, and the short carries the same quiet confidence. An elastic waist, a white drawcord with red tips and rounded side hems with a small split give it a playful line. You wear Wink from the sunbed to the beach bar without changing a thing. Wink comes in 16 colours, from nautical blue and electric yellow to sand, nude and black.

Abbygill

Abbygill is the composed one. The short sits high on the waist, with two flap pockets on the front, red buttons and softly curved hems. The shape owes more to tailoring than to beachwear, so Abbygill moves from a morning on the terrace to dinner in the old town with a jacket over the shoulders. Abbygill comes in sand, dark blue, blue and white.

A day on the Riviera, in shorts

Picture Saint-Tropez in July. In the morning, Wink in white with a Baindoux top, coffee on the quay while the yachts wake up. At noon, the same Wink over a swimsuit at a beach club in Pampelonne, a bucket hat for women against the sun. In the evening, Abbygill in sand with one of the women’s jackets and a low heel, for a table that only opens at nine.

That is the idea of a quiet luxury outfit: few pieces, good fabric, nothing that shouts. The Saint-Tropez clothing guide and the outfits for the Amalfi Coast follow the same rule.

Where shorts come from

The word shorts appeared in 1826 as a name for short trousers. For more than a century, shorts belonged to boys, soldiers and sportsmen. Women claimed them in the 1930s, first for tennis and cycling, then for holidays on the coast.

Two later chapters shaped the Baindoux pair. On Bermuda, businessmen wore tailored shorts with a jacket and tie, and proved that shorts belong in town. In the 1980s, the American brand Dolfin cut short running shorts with rounded corners and side slits, now known as dolphin shorts. Abbygill follows the first line, Wink the second, with a cheeky grin.

Why terry feels different

Shorts sit close to the skin on the warmest days of the year. Terry absorbs moisture, which makes a terry short pleasant over a damp swimsuit. Baindoux terry is woven from Giza cotton, an Egyptian cotton with an extra-long fibre, so the loops stay soft and the colour holds through a summer of sun and salt. The properties of Giza cotton and the Baindoux craftsmanship explain the difference you feel at the first touch.

Order online or try them in store

The waist decides how shorts look, especially on a high-waisted pair like Abbygill. You order online with the delivery and returns terms on one page, or you try both styles in one of the Baindoux stores.

Frequently asked questions

What are dolphin shorts?

Dolphin shorts are short athletic shorts with rounded side hems, small side slits and contrast binding. The American brand Dolfin introduced the style in the 1980s, and the shorts are named after the brand.

High-waisted shorts sit at or above the natural waist instead of on the hips. The higher waist lengthens the legs and pairs well with crop tops and tucked-in shirts.

Choose shorts with a tailored waistband and front pockets, and pair them with a structured top or a short jacket. Leather sandals or a low heel finish the look.
